can a bad throttle position sensor cause this?
can a bad throttle position sensor cause my fuel injectors to stop spraying at idle?
i have to spray starter fluid in the throttle body to start it, and then it will only stay running if i keep the rpm's above 1000.
my car has about one year old cap, rotor, plug wires, plugs, fuel filter, and fuel pump on it. i started the car, and watched the injectors, as soon as the rpms fall below 1000, the injectors stop spraying.
any input would be greatly appreciated, going to work and school with no car kinda sucks .

so i just checked the tps with a digital voltmeter....
reads .44volts at idle, and 4.16volts full throttle.
is .44v too far from .54v to keep the engine running, or is it just the voltmeter being that far off?

I really don't know if the voltage being at .44 can cause it not to idle, but I would say you should set it correctly. Mine is set at .53 at idle... which runs fine, but it still should be set properly.
I would also check the ECM for codes, see if you're getting any.

i've heard that on my 91 rs they used a non-adjustable tps?.
and im not getting any codes. i believe the ecm to be working since it throws a code when i disconnect my map sensor.

Non adjustable.. correct.. however it is adjustable if you drill the holes a bit larger/oblong. People have done it and it works just fine.
If it originally was a 89 and earlier it needed to be adjustable. In 90 - 92 the SD units had a self initalizing test where it automatically reverts to the low setting when it is started with the throttle plates all the way closed.

well we figured it out.
first i tried a new IAC valve, but that didn't help. my buddy had an old control module laying around, so we tried that. put it in and tried to start it, got fuel but no spark. so i went to autozone and bought a new one (control module part no. DR140) and it started right up.
it's kinda funny that the two modules had the exact opposite problem. mine would deliver spark but no fuel, and the other one would deliver fuel but no spark.
so old faithful rides again
