buying an 87 GTA
i looked at an 87 GTA to buy. it is $700. it has a digital dash, when the car is started it hardly idles.(MAF i think) anyway, the oil pressure gauge reads ZERO all the time,but even when the engine is revved it stays quiet.any quick, bright ideas before i decide whether to buy this car or not?? thank you in advance.

Hows the tranny?
Is it all stock? Any mods done to it?
For $700 how is the body and frame?
Does all of the digial dash work? I heard they can be a pain if not working.
I might be getting a 87 IROC for $600 but I know what is wring with that.
Just check it out carfully cause you don't want to put out $2000 to make it road worthy.

the digital dash works, but the tripp computer doesn't,neither does the radio,fuse maybe? all i know of the trans. is that is is the later model with the changes that were made by GM, it goes into drive and reverse. i'm more worried about this oil pressure issue. i can't hook up a gauge to really find out if it has any! oh, and as for the body, it is all perfectly straight and the paint looks to be in good shape too. one of the 16 inch honeycomb wheels is missing but the other three are in good condition. the t-tops seem to leak but that isn't a big deal, and the 2 front seats r torn, and the power drivers doesn't move. it only has a drum brake rear though. later...

Probably the oil pressure sensor is toast. A buddy of mine had the same problem, drove his around for like 6 years with out a oil pressure sensor. If ya get the car just replace the sensor. As far as the leaking t-tops, I will warn you, its annoying as ****!! If ya leave anything on the seat, and it rains, it gets soaked. Plus its embrassing when you are picking up a date, and she has to sit on towels. From what I have heard, to fix the leaks, its as simple as replaceing all of the t-tops seals. To me it looks kinda difficult, but Im going to attempt it in the summer.
