350 Vortec, need harmonic balancer info

I bought without a harmonic balancer and need to know if I can use my 91 305 balancer or will I need to get one specificly for a 350. The engine is stock out of a 96 Tahoe.
Thanks for any help you can offer.

As long as it's in good shape you can use it without and problems. Just remember that the timing mark may be in a different location than where it would have been on the new motor. All internally balanced small blocks can use the same balancer.

FYI, The balancer for a 350 that will put the timing marks at about 2 o clock is Pt # 6272222. You can use a regular timing tab that bolts to the timing cover with this one.

This will move the marks from the location behind the water pump.

Thanks for the help ya all! I'm going to use the stock lo3 balancer with a timing tape to set the 0 deg at the correct point. Whats up with that, that the goofballs at gm would put the 0 mark at 12 o'clock right behind the pump? I had to find it the hard way. I was trying to retime the car just to put a little more advance in it and couldn't even find the index tab. Got to looking around and lo and behold there it was behind the pump. Maybe thats why they called it an lo-----3.

See ya, Steve

You will need to remove the crankshaft position sensor reluctor ring thats behind the timing cover, to use a non-vortec balancer. Remember that if you remove the plastic cover, you should replace it. The vortec harmonic balancer hub is shorted because of that reluctor. If you don't remove it the crankshaft pulley will be misaligned.
Also there is a hole in the plastic timing cover where the crankshaft position sensor goes, you will have to find a way to plug it, usually people just leave the sensor in there unplugged, but there is another plastic cover available with that hole undrilled.
If you want, you can convert it to a metal cover by getting 2 dowel pins for the front cover, the new covers do not use dowels, but the block can use them
BTW, I have unlimited access to new vortec style covers, I'll be using those from now on.
