Need a place to bring my car

I can understand if this gets locked but I cannot think of anywhere else to ask this.

With that said. I go to school in Rochester NY, I just recently brought my car up here. Was wondering if someone could reccommend me a place to bring it to, for general repairs, tune ups and things. Its too cold this time of the year and i have no garage to do anything in =[ .

Based on extensive research I have done on this subject, picking a mechanic that won't rape you is tough. But here is what I learned. First, ask around. See if people recommend or tell you to avoid anyone in particular. When you get a couple of names, check to see the following:
1) Are they AAA certified.
2) ASA certified
3) ASE certifeid
4) Have a clean record with the better business bureau.

All this info for 1-4 can be found on the respective websites.

I doubt you will find one that has all 4, I live in Brooklyn, NY where there are thousands of mechanic shops, and none fit all 4 criteria. Only two meet 3 of the 4.

Finally, Be cafeful about the ASE certification. There are over 40 catergories to be certified in. Being an ASE certified mechanic for air conditioner recycling doesn't mean he/she knows about transmissions. Ask what they are certified in.

Hope this helps.

You may want to ask this at www.nethirdgen.org as alot of the people that post there are from around your area. You may get a better response.

Being ASE certified dosent give a gurantee that someone knows what they are doing just that they are good at taking tests. I think seeing these signs out front a garage gives a person a false sense of security. Ask around for a good recommendation.
