Noise on my friends 3.1 LHO motor from 91' camaro

After he starts up the car he hears a ticking sound. It happens once and awhile. He just changed the oil and im sure thats not the problem but the noise sounds like tick<knock> tick<knock> sound sort of combined but after the car is warmed up and has been driven it stops making that noise. Im sure the prob. is internally but what can be causing that noise and how can he correct that problem. Any guesses.

Thats kind of funny.. I was getting that a while ago but it went away. One time, ONE! time I took my car to Chevy to have them fix it, came back with a vacuum leak and this wierd ticking sound. It went away after a week or so, I just forgot about it.

Mine does the same thing. Guys on the fierro boards complain that their 2.8/3.1 do it to, so I wouldnt worry about it to much.

This is probrably Not what You guys are hearing, But...

This girl I know has a 91 3.1L, and it was making a weird Ticking noise, So i took a Look at it for her.

Turns out that The Alternator Pulley/fan was hitting Both the alternator houseing and The Serp belt, dont ask Me Why.

A little pleir work and it was all straitend out, but It wast very obvious at first.

maybe that helps
