I know that there has been alot of talk around here about the pro-products "air-gap" intake is not the same as the edelbrock airgap intake.

So how does the Dart "air-gap" cool can intake compare? Does anybody have experience with them? Should i just buy the edelbrock?

This is for my new XR274-12 383 stroker.

I've never seen the dart intake before, but if I had to choose between the edelbrock or the pro products, I'd definitely spend a little extra for the edelbrock. I've seen a lot of posts here about the poor casting quality of the pro products manifolds. Actually, for a nice 383, I'd probably go with the RPM airgap over the standard performer airgap. You'll get much better top end. Of course I can't remember if they even offer the airgap in a standard non-RPM style.

Both Dart and Brodix intakes are out of the box ready to make some power, but you pay initially for them. Edelbrock's are good enough out of the box for most of us, but it'll take alot of massaging on the runners especially under the carb to get them even close to what the Dart or Brodix flow out of box. So one way or another your going to pay for the optimization of the intake.

No personal experience with the up and coming intakes. One of those things where the edelbrocks have been tested and proven time and again, so it's hard to stray away from what's known to work just to save a few $$.

I'm running the Dart cool can intake on my 406 and love it. The casting was very clean out of the box and the porst only needed very little porting to match up to my Dart Pro1 heads. This is the first time I have ever used a dual plane made by Dart and I am not dissapointed.

So are you saying that the Dart will make more power? Because the Dart is cheaper then the Edelbrock.

If you can get the Dart cheaper than the Edelbrock, I'd jump all over that and laugh all the way to the finish line Your going to buy a new edelbrock around $200 roughly and then to get it to flow as much as the Darts/Brodix does OUT OF BOX your looking to invest another $80-100 before it's all said and done since they will flow it before and after to see the gains they've gotten from massaging it. So your at about retail price for a Dart/Bodix intake in the big picture. It's your money so spend it to get the most bang for the buck you can afford, if you can spend the $300 for a new Dart/Brodix it will be money well spent.

Does anybody know the Dart Kool Can part number? I can't even find think intake searching google, for various things. I can't even find it on Dart or World Products websites. Huh?

I have the pro products polished "crosswind"... it is a very good casting with one major exception... the front mounting hole for the alternator bracket is off by like an inch. Do you guys have this problem with the RPM air gap? I have yet to track test the crosswind on my 383... but when I do, I'll post results.

I have the Vortec version of the same Crosswind manifold in satin. Same problem with the alternator bracket bolt hole. Other than that it fit like a glove.

Just fired 'er up. (Vortec 406) seems to be a very responsive intake.

It's usually a long PITA wait to get through to anyone on the phone at Summit, but if you have the patience, I'd be willing to bet they can probably still get one of those intakes if you ask them for one specifically. I've gotten quite a few parts from them talking to them over the phone that aren't even listed in their catalogs. I wanted a set of Manley composite guideplates once, and I've never seen them listed in their books, and they were able to get them after making one phone call to them.

I found an old HOTROD mag article where they used a Kool can on a build. They said that the PN 4281100. But i still can't find the intakes anywhere except on ebay. I can't even find any information on them.
