trying to guess horsepower
ok i bought my 91 Z28 with the 350TPI about 3 years ago. The only thing i have done to it is a home made ram air and rebuilt the 700R4. I always thought that it was a little quicker than it should be. Anyways i took it to the track, and on the 1/8th mile it ran a best of 8.20 and stayed around 8.4 with 17in torq thrust 2's, and 245 45 17's. Spinning excessively off the line. does anyone have any idea how much horsepower this would approximatly equal too.

8.2 1/8th!!! My best up here is a 8.4 and my car runs 13.0. I have approx 325 rwhp. You must be spraying at least a 125 shot. Or your car weighs like 2500 pounds, LOL

best 60ft time was 2.05.....trap speed was usually around 75. Car is all stock on the outside. No weight reducement. and i am not using and bottle. As i said the car is as purchased. The TPI and engine looks stock. has stock exhaust manifolds. flowmaster muffler. not sure about the chip.

I have a theory that some one put 4.10 gears in the back that is why it is so quick with so much wheel spin.

Theres either a) something wrong with the clocks at your track, or b) your car has A LOT of work done to it. If you're doing 70mph @ 3500RPM you should have like 3.42-3.73 gears, which right there is an indiction the cars been modified. 8.2's in the 1/8th is like a 12.70 in the 1/4 which is VERY fast (in my opinion) for a LR-TPI car. You have the factory restricting intake AND the factory restricting exhaust but go 12's? Whoever built that car must really know what they're doing.
For the sake of us thirdgen.org users, please go outside and get some casting numbers. Look on the back of the block by the distributor, and then take off your valve cover and get the head casting #.

will get casting numbers after work and post them. don't know much about the engine but would love to take it apart and find out but probably couldn't get it back together...right now its sitting with a stripped distributor bolt and messed up brakes, hasn't moved in like a month. so hopefully after this weekend i will be back up and running with alittle work.

any way you can post the time slip? I have to be convinced you are reading it right...did you beat the opposing car each time? That thing is making some power once you hook up, those 60' times are weak. You are saying the motor is stock, that just doesnt add up. No flame here, just trying as everyone else is, to see if you have more of a beast in there than you know.
Our best in the 4rth gen with 3:42 gears , 6 speed. 2.1 spinning out of control 60' time, netted us a best of 8.7 at 81 mph
Thats with a 275..some say 280 flywheel horsepower rating. These cars run High 13's in the 1/4

i will try to find some timeslips, all of these runs were about a year ago. I know that i am reading them right because at the time i was going to the track reguarly. Not trying to sound like a lie or anything, don't know too much about internal engine work. so there could be modifications done. just appears to look stock. not trying to step on anyone's toes, so sorry if i came across that way.

My 305 does 78 in the 1/8th......and thats with a 2.0 sixty, no wheel spin. I have 3.42 also. My ET is only 9.1
How in the heck are you doing slower than me speed wise, same 60 and doing almost 1 sec faster in the ET.....I would like to know that!
Even with a cam I cant see that.

I would have to look up the ticket..the 60' was from memory the trap time i'm sure of as well as the speed. I'm not trying to BS anyone here. This is our town car the only mod is the k&N intake and A/C delete. We just took it out for fun. So calm down buddy.
If you wanna know what my race set-up third gen can do with 500hp give me a week or 2.

350 tpi=massive torque. 305tpi torque but decent horsepower. A 350 and 305 tpi use the same intake so the 350 will always be more choked up high than a 305. Thats why 350s respond to aftermarket runners so well and 305 gain almost nothing.

Heres a real stock L98's timeslip:
60' 2.157
330 6.090
1/8 9.278
MPH 76.74
990 11.975
1/4 14.381
MPH 97.45
That was what my car ran 3 years ago. 350TPI, 3.27 rear, Hooker cat-back, maybe 100lbs of weight off the car (glass hood, no A/C), no other mods.
