what all is involved in removing the smog equipment from my car its an 86 ta(carb), and got some headers (real cheap $30 brand new) and i am going to install them and i was just going to remove the smog stuff while i was in the process, so if you could just let me know how hard it is and what all is involved

What would you consider to be "smog equipment"? Obviously, unless the $30 headers you just acquired have fittings for A.I.R. tubing, you may not be able to successfully connect the air plumbing to them. You might still want to connect the air tube to the cat converter if your cat still has one.

As for other "smog" items, I would not advise removal of an otherwise working EGR syste, since it can have benefits beyond reducing NOx emissions, especially if the car still has a feedback carburetor and EST distributor.

Ditto for the PCV system, unless you like changing your oil every two weeks.

The EVAP canister is a completely passive system, and takes really no useable space. It also helps prevent your $2.00/gallon fuel from evaporating out of your tank and emptying your wallet.
