Do I need the EGR valve on my TPI setup? + other ???'s

I am about to put my 87 TPI setup on my 86 LG4 motor and wanted to know what sensors, relays, and other stuff can be removed from the engine and still have a performance car?
I don't need to pass any smog stuff (I have the hook-ups) so I don't have any emissions equipment on the car.
I will be burning or having a new PROM burned for me, so I just need to know what I can get rid of.

Thanks

The A.I.R. system can be thrown in the trash and pipe caps from local plumbing store can cover pipes on exhaust, and tube to cat if that still exists. Serpentine belt will have to be rerouted, there is an article here on thirdgen.org on how to reroute. The E.G.R. systems function is to keep the combustion chamber temperature down to decrease ping/knock. If you run good gas you could block off the egr port at the manifold. Leaving the egr solenoid and egr temp switch connected but the vacuum lines disconnected the computer wont know any different. Put the egr switch on the intake so it will get heat anyway and think the egr is functioning.
With that system I think pretty much every thing else relates to fuel trim and is required to make it function. Ecm and wiring harness would help out alot.
Best thing to do is read up and educate your self about swap before jumping in. I'm not responsible for your emissions removal, sorry just a disclamer. I'm done babbling. Next.

Thanks.

I started the swap this evening.
Got most of the old parts removed.
Will be removing the heads tomorrow and start to port my replacement heads.
Saturday I'll probably put the ECM and harness on and finish up with the TPI.
Sunday and Monday will hopefully be the tuning days and Tuesday the car should be running perfect.

You could disconnect the egr solnoid since the computer doesn't know if it's connected or not. Plug the vacuum port on the bottom of the throttle body and remove the egr can from the manifold and use a block off plate. When you order your chip since you are having it custom burned ask for an 89 ARAP program to your motors specs and ask to have the EGR flag turned off and highway mode enabled. This is a much superior program for the TPI and will increase your drivability. Also with this chip you can unplug the 9th injector from the intake since the cold start function would be handled by the regular injectors.

With this programming the benifits are:

- Improved horsepower and throttle response.
- Elemination of the 9th injector
- Increased drivability
- No part throttle surging or hunting idle
- Much improved gas milage

If the person burning your chip doesn't understand what you mean when explaining the 'ARAP' and EGR flag and highway mode enabled, find someone else to make your chip.

Do you know someone that does quality eprom burning for a decent price?
I haven't even priced what a chip is going to cost me.
