I'm unsure of what inductions were available on the 6 cylinders... but I'd assume you have fuel injection. In which case, follow the intake (the thing on top of the motor that looks like it's got 6 legs on it or something... big metal hunk lol) back until you find where the air filter is hidden. It might be concealed by little snaps, or screws, or torx screws, or bolts. You'll just have to undo those bolts, take out the old filter, and replace it with a new one.

This is even easier on a Carb though. There's typically one flynut (or whatever you want to call it... I have a word of my own for just about everything ) undo that, the top of the air filter will come off, then replace the air filter.

Installation is always the reverse of removal

GOOD LUCK!

how did it go? much guesswork? or pretty straight forward?

Everyone has to start somewhere I was exactly where you are about a year ago, but I like to save money, and cars seem to be the biggest expense (repairing our old hunks of crap) so it was incentive to learn how to fix them myself

Keep truckin'

aaah i remember changing my first air filter.. it was on a 3.1 as well, but in a cutlass..

the guy before me siliconed the lid down because it cracked all over the place, when i opened it up the thing looked like it hadnt been changed in its whole life, about 1/4" thick mud, a bunch of bird feathers (still kinda confused on that one) a bunch of june bugs and it was just full of crap. wow, good times...

hope everything went smooth for you and your air filter replacement
