What oil pump for 350 build?

The farther I get into this project, the more things I'm figuring I should replace!!

With a 69 350 block, Holley stealth ram, trick flow heads, etc., should I run a stock oil pump, or should I replace it while I have the motor out?

What one should I get? Is there anything else I would have to change??

Stock replacement. If that's all I need, sounds good to me!

  • Melling M55 oil pump (MEL-M55)
  • Melling 55s pickup screen (MEL-55-S1)
  • Melling IS-55e hardened driveshaft (MEL-IS-55E)
  • Mr. Gasket #26 pressure spring (MRG-26)

That's about all the oiling system a small block chevy will need, given no added oil clearances or added flow volume.

it should, pretty universal fit. i hammer a flat on a 1/4 round, drill a hole in it, weld the round end to the pick up and bolt the flat end to the pump.

Re: What oil pump for 350 build?

The M55 is no longer recommended for a high performance engine. Since this thread originated Melling has reduced the casting thickness of the M55 oil pump. In a hi-po engine the casting will break off in the neck area.
