Valve Job (Non ThirdGen)

Hey i was wondering how hard it is to do a valve seal job on a mitsubishi Galant. Its a 4 banger i believe its a 2.2. Anyway my question is namely, i am very experienced with cars but i have never done a valve seal before. Do I need special instructions or should i just follow a Haynes manual? Also.. do you think i'd be in over my head? I have all the tools necessary.

Matt

Depends on the head and configuration. Usually those type of engines (4 banger OHC) its difficult to get the valve springs off even if the head is off the car let alone on the car. If its a 4 valve... oh boy. I hope you have a tool for the springs, because a lever arm like most people use on a SBC more than likely will not work.

89,

Since Mitsubishi is notorious for poor cam and valve train lubrication, you're not alone. You can probably get a reman head fairly inexpensively. AutoZone probably has about 20 of them on the shelf since they fail so often. It would likely be cheaper and faster to exchange your head for a reman than to find a machinist to grind all those little valves, and fight all those little springs and keepers, let alone repair the guides and replace cam bearings correctly.
