Custom Chip Question...(LSracing chips)

Hey Guys anyone in here ever purchase a custom chip from LSRacingchips.com ? They seem pretty good. They ask for your specifics and say they will burn you a custom chip for your specs. They guarantee it also stating that if you try the chip and are not satified you can send it back and they will reburn it and overnight it back to you. If you are still not satisfied, they will refund your money. The Chip for my car is $165 with free shipping. Right now all I have is the stock chip. I wrote to them with some questions about my car, and they wrote back. Please take the time to read what they wrote to me and tell me if this sounds like it makes sense. I am lost on the timing issues? I just want to be able to get on the gas pedal without any pinging. Below is my email to them, and then below it is their email response to me. THANKS! I need help!

Hello, I have a 1989 Trans Am GTA with a ZZ4 motor in it. I do
not have headers, but I have installed acell 24lb injectors, walbro 255 lph
fuel pump, I removed all the smog equipment, I installed a Holley adjustable
fuel pressure regulator. the ZZ4 motor has no egr passages so I purchased a
egr block off plate. The problem i have is that my car pings on
acceleration. I had the timing at 10degrees BTDC, but had to lower it to 7
BTDC, and it still pings. My future mods on the car are headers, new race
transmission, and some more fuel mods (throttle body, Stealth Ram intake etc) The question I
have is can you guys burn me a chip that will eliminate the egr, and give me
some more performance over the stock chip I have now? My main concern is
removing the egr in the chip. Because I really notice the power loss where
I have the timing set (7 degrees BTDC). I just want to be able to lay the gas pedal down
without having to have the motor pinging. Hopefully you guys can help!
THanks in advance!
Take care
Mike

Mike,

First of all, you need to set your distributor to 6* timing with the est
wire disconnected. That is where the computer is programmed for the timing
to be. We will take care of the spark advance in the tune for you so that
you will not have to adv. the timing with the distributor. Are tune will
work excellent with your engine and planned mods. We should have no problem
with getting rid of the pingging, which is probably detonation. Are you
running 93 octane? Just go to our site and purchase the chip that most
closely matches your car and computer and during the buying process it will
ask you for all your info on your car. Thank you and we look forward to
tuning your car.

LSRacing chips,

Jamy

Off the shelf chips are junk. Pure and simple. There is no way they know what your motor needs without a live data feed via scanning software and WBO2. It is like mail order surgery from a Doctor. It can't be done. The grammer alone in his reply is enough to make you quiver. The only way to have your combo tuned effectivly is to have it duyno tuned with a reputable tuner who uses a WB02. You can also get it pretty darn close by doing it yourself. $160 can net you all the stuff you need to burn your own. It takes many many burns to get a chip tune dialed in. By the time the mail man delivers you a bad chip from aftermarket sources you can burn 100 chips of your own.

Thanks man, but can you explain the timing to me?? Also can you tell me what I would need to burn my own, and where I can get the equipment? I am really interested in getting this. Also if I purchase the things needed to burn my own, can someone like me who knows nothing about this stuff learn to do it pretty easy Thanks!

Jamy from LS Racing Chips does a wonderful job. Hes from NE ohio and has tuned my car, and a few other of my friends. I would Highly recommend him. I would def get one from him over anybody else. He does an EXCELLANT job. In fact I have another appointment with him Next tuesday to do some WOT Wideband tuning.

Thanks MKOS. I tell you, I have had this motor in my car for a couple of years like this and I am getting sick of it. At this point I would be happy if I could just get the pinging to stop so I can have fun without feeling like I am damaging the car.

Later bro

Unless you can get the car to him I would look into doing it yourself. Spend some time reading in the DIY PROM board. The process takes some time to learn but it is well worth it in the end. There is an unlimited amount of kno whow on this site when dealing with tuning.
