1986 SC Camaro, LG4, 305, my daily driver in New England for the past 20 years.
Head gasket has been the only thing replaced on the engine. I use full synthetic motor oil, and my mechanic said the inside of my engine is clean as a whistle. No deposits.
hahahaaha i posted this and i said i had like 185k miles on the car. now i got 215 thousand. no work and i can still blow the doors off a good enuf amount of cars
I've got 207,000+ on my 1987 Z28 Camaro (305 TPI; 700r4 auto) since driving it off the Chevy dealers lot. I replaced the transmission after about 195,000 miles. Engines still has not been apart yet. Replaced the normal stuff like the radiator, electric fuel pump, etc. and I just had all the injectors replaced (ouch!). Really haven't driven it much the past 4-5 years as it's been sitting around while I drive my other car everywhere. But after replacing the injectors, I've decided to restore the car to show room quality or better! This will be a on going project but it'll be worth it when I get it all done.
I had 227'000 hard km's before I spun a bearing on my lil 305 . It ran a 15.1@93 mph with alot of blowby

I'm at 260,000 on my 92 formula. I got it in '98 @ 72,000 from the original owner. I've done just the usual tune up stuff on my 5.7 TPI except for a few upgrades (msd, strut brace, jet chip, borla, etc...) Although I have gone through 2 B&M 700-R4's. Still running strong. Hope to get to 300,000. Also, it doesn't burn any oil whatsoever.
139,000 on mine, no major work....Battery, Water pump (Today) Probably need to do the tranny, and a valve job...Burns no oil at all tho...Still runs strong...Just the free mods right now.
see now i feel like i got jipped i have a 82 camaro z28 with the 205 ho carberated and at 81,081 it stoped starting no idea what could be the problem i know last time it started it got a bit on the hot side...anyone have any idea...i think the engine may be locked if so how do i unlock it?****
I have a 82 camaro z28 yes the 1st year for the famous f-body original carb but i believe my engine is locked last time it ran it got a bit on the hot side...does anyone know how to unlock my baby.....**** thing is it only has just over 80k miles and have been garage kept and babied its whole life...i would realy apprecaite it if someone could help me....my email is red92camaro@yahoo.com ....ahh btw i got that from my other car i have a 92 25th ann rs/z28 with the 305 thats fuel injected red with all the gadgets.both are mint condition except the 82 and its only fault is it wont start.
did i mention i have had these cars since i was 6 just cars dad had before he died....they are truely my babies now and its killing me that the 82 is locked....both very low miles 80k on the 82 and 91k on the 92 both 305ho's all stock and original except the tires...and regualr stuff fluids and tires sparks and wiresonly very basic stuff has been changed...the 82 is my favourite it may be slightly lower with hp but it has blown away serveral of those rice burning piece's of ****...
I know it said without engine work but I'm not gonna let mine count.
It got rebuilt while up in some mountains in georgia by a bunch of guys who obviously didn't know what they were doing because they grounded the battery to just some random spot. This wasn't done while I owned the car. It's an 86 firebird, my cousin owned it before me and he was the original owner. The rebuild is the only engine work and it's gonna hit 180,000 by the end of the 1/2 tank of gas thats in it. It's got 80 somethin to go.
That sketchyy rebuild makes me wonder what else might be holding it back though. Seems to run fine, but I've only had it a year so I don't know what it could be doing, just what it does. I've had it up to 110 (the governer) so atleast I know it's capable.
I've got 260,000 miles on a 1991 RS, 305 and have never had any work done on the engine and trans. Spark plugs are starting to get carbon build up so I'll eventually need a new engine. I only paid $5,200 for it 10 years ago with 96,000 miles on it, T-top, leather seats and new red paint.
85 z28
305 HO Had 204,000 miles before it went. I went through 4 700r4's 2 water pumps, radiator. At 150,000 rear end went out (3.08) now it is 3.73 posi. I shot a main cap through the oil pan at the track, good news is i still won vs. a 97 eclipse. Then i put a 355 it only lasted 35,000 miles. Temporarly its got a 327 out of a until i get another motor.
230,000 on my 83, no engine work, just ask the guys who followed me from the power at the point picknic 2006, ...oil cloud. One T5 rebuild and one new rearend (lost the 3.42's for a highway cruise 2.77)

Re: Whos got the highest miles 3rd gen out there?(without engine work!)
As of today my car has 271,300 miles on the original engine. It has had a LT1 cam swap, w/ 1.6 Crane rr's and Crane H-11 Tool Steel springs and Cloyes TC set, on its 3rd trans, 6th rear 4th windshield( stress cracks), 4th bumper cover, and as you can see in the sig I still race it and drive it hard.

Re: Whos got the highest miles 3rd gen out there?(without engine work!)
You bumped a really old thread, lol.
I was weirded out at the low mileages i was seeing on the first page, and then I realized they were from 10 years ago. Kinda crazy. I was barely in middle school when this thread was started lol.
Re: Whos got the highest miles 3rd gen out there?(without engine work!)
I have a 1984 z28 with L69 305. Its going on 180,000 miles. I just had to replace the radiator and now I have to replace the water pump. It also has a newer alternator. Other than that, engine, trans, and rear are all original. No smoke or any other problems but it does occasionally grind into reverse. other than that, its perfect!
oh, and it could use a good carb cleaning and rebuild, but thats it.

As far as I know the car's engine has had no serious work, just replacement of oil, plugs and such, even so it's mighty impressive.
The car is starting to get all kinds of little problems, like one time it wouldn't start, he had to go under the car and hit it somewhere with a hammer, various electrical equipment is failing too, cruise control has give up the ghost and one time when I was driving it home(designated driver) in the winter it stopped blowing warm air, again he went out and hit something in the engine and the warm air came back
Sorry for quoting the oldest **** ever, but I thought this was funny stuff!
This thread is epic!!
My baby 305rs only has 144k on it. All I can say is holy ****! I thought my camy had a lot of miles......
but 9 year old thread, and some of you guys already had 200K+ back in 2000! She must have had a lot of garage time before I got her
Re: Whos got the highest miles 3rd gen out there?(without engine work!)
K so not sure on the Camaro, but I bought a winter car (oldsmobile silhouette) well its a mini van. It has 400k on it. Its the 1990. Not many would fix that pos if it broke? Not me. "The space ship" lol. Anyhow. It has a huge oil leak, the trans does not want to shift till u let off the gas, and over 65 she shakes down the road. I dont care lol it was only $275 delivered from 100 miles away.
Strange thing is that with oil in it, that motor sounds too good. Makes me wonder.
Re: Whos got the highest miles 3rd gen out there?(without engine work!)
91 RS 305 TBI 140k all original. Nothing major except fuel pump. Leaky valve seals, little rough idle, and the spark knock I can't figure out yet. Other than that, it runs pretty good. Tranny shifts great.
Re: Whos got the highest miles 3rd gen out there?(without engine work!)
1986 Berlinetta 188-189,000ish miles only second owner & I'm positive its never been rebuilt, just a good guess ^^ I know I havent touched it tho I think it needs 1 new valve seal but thats no biggy
Re: Whos got the highest miles 3rd gen out there?(without engine work!)
i have a stock lb9 wit a cat back mm5 g92 all original 197k miles even stock clutch and it still holds previous owner must have known how to drive lol does grind second a little but 195k on an original trans
Re: Whos got the highest miles 3rd gen out there?(without engine work!)
My 89 IROC-Z 305 TPI has 314000 miles on it and I'm the sole owner. I have replaced injector, sensors and such but no rebuild. I did have to rebuild the transmission at 278000 miles though (lost reverse). The tech said it was in very good condition, just worn out.
Re: Whos got the highest miles 3rd gen out there?(without engine work!)
My 91 Rs 305 L03, has 197,800. Runs great, never left me stranded. Heads never been off. Belts, hoses, fuel/water pumps, alternators...all been through. GM really only messed up on the valve guide seals, which all leak and puff on startup, otherwise these motors are excellent.

Currently 214k miles on the factory 350TPI and 700R4. They are rather tired, and have to be treated with TLC, but still have spunk.
Happy 10 Year Thread!!
You know someone was gonna do it. I did it cause i want to see who still has their third gen 10 years later and how many miles now????
Mine is an 89 rs, 2.8/700R4. bought it with 185,xxx, second owner. Now 214,xxx after 3 alternators, 2 timing cover gaskets, timing set, starter, heater control valve, radiator, water pump, and battery are the only things ive had to replace in the engine bay for the 2 years ive owned her.
Every 3000 miles i change the oil and filter and add lucas oil stabilizer, tuneups, regular maintenece, the occasional all around seafoam treatment. She runs like new, no smoke or burnt oil; and neither the motor or trans has been rebuilt.
Unfortunately i fear im slowly losing the 700R4; But with the way i take care of the car i probably have at least another 100,000k before i have to do something major in the motor.
Updates guys, lets see how they are holding up!!!

Welcome Aboard!
Go to the forum view page (you are currently in the Tech / General Engine Forum) and locate the "Start New Topic" button near the top left corner of the page. The page will prompt you to fill in the necessary fields.
As for the thread, I still have the TA and it just keeps logging more and more miles. Since it was built in June of 1986 it is about 8,916 days old today (Happy Birthday!). Since the earth travels through space at an average of 66,700 MPH, every hour, every day, every year (including leap years) I figure it's logged at least 14,272,732,800 miles. Add to that the 49,000 miles on the odometer and you're talking some serious distance.
