blown 350 or 383???
Well since i have this 4 bolt 350 block sitting here i have no clue what to do with it.
Im debating with throwing a blower on it as is or stroking it and leave it naturally aspirated. as i plan to keep it on 91 octane gas i figure a stroked 383 i can make more power out of.
Any suggestions? i figure it will cost about the same to go either way.

Why not build a blown 383?A nice mild 383 with a blow through type blower would be *** kickin' for a street car.

i dont want to spend that kind of money, i was thinking either a 6-71 ontop of the 350 or go 383.
I already have the 350 block sitting here with rotating assembly so i was thinking of using my old heads and porting them and throwing the blower on it or... get whole new rotating assembly and aluminum heads and use the intake/carb on the 350 thats still in my car.

well i just punched my current setup into dd2000 and it says 319HP @ 5k and with the 383 with the same heads and bigger carb 319HP @ 4500 with 45lb more of torque... i think its on crack, if not ill get the blower.
Edit: 401hp @ 5500 & 464lb @ 3500 with a 6-71 blower with all of the parts i currently have, i think the blower is best bang for the buck. or maybe its going to be just bang lol

So you think your going to just slap a roots blower on a stock shortblock and run it on 91?

With a roots blower your going to have to run a max of 8:1 compression. Roots blower are very inefficient and really heat up the air causing detonation problems.
Also it might not last long unless you have a perfect tune or running good forged pistons.

With my 76cc heads im already @ 8-8.5:1 with any common -10/-13cc dished piston.
If i do go the blower route their will be a water/meth injection to help with detonation.
Now that i actually punched the numbers into dd2000 i would rather spend 4k on a motor with 420hp than just a big cube with 320hp although the 383 does have a ton of low end torque...
Edit: well heck my brain just keeps going in loops... i would love the look of a blower but i dont really know how it would be bolted up to an auto trans as they make most power around 6.5k RPM which a th-350 will never see without going bang lol
Maybe a 383 would be better with its craploads of low end torque...

If you run a blower it will take more than forged pistons to live. If you have the stock crank, put it on the shelf. You will need a forged crank and forged rods as well as forged pistons to handle the pressure of the blower. I figure you will need to spend at least $3000.00 on the engine minimum to get it ready for a blower.

I dont think i would have to go quite 3k on the bottom end i dont plan on it living forever but maybe i will just stroke this block.
Anyone know of any major clearance issues with the eagle specialty 383 rotating assembly?
If i get a full summer out of a motor ill be happy if it lives till the next summer ill find a way to kill it...
