Car runs like crap and stalls

i just recently replaced the altenator in my 92 camaro RS because the battery wouldn't hold a charge and would drain. Well now the car starts up fine but then when i'm driving it stalls out and the service engine light comes on. Also at this time the engine temp is up to about 240. Is the car stalling because of the engine overheating. If so i prolly need a new thermostat then and how hard is that to replace myself.

Check to see if your cooling fan is running and check to see if the air deflector under the front of the car is missing. It hangs down and is easy to smash off on parking curbs. I have a friend who had a car like yours and he had to turn on his a/c to get the cooling fan to run.

ya the air deflector is there. I replaced the thermostat and it doesn't overheat now...but it still sounds like its not running right..and when i accelerate it feels like it bogs down and misses gear.

boging usually means it's running rich, ignition timing could be off also. By misses gear do you mean shifts up to early, if so it could be the TV cable is out of adjustment.

There is a tech article on this website under transmission called adjusting your TV detent cable, they do a better job explaining it than I could in a post.
