Help! Is $375 fair for new MAFsensor instaled
I took my 305tpi bird to the shop because it was dying whenever I slowed or stoped. They say I need a new mass air flow sensor and it will cost me $375 with labor. Does this sound right. It is kind of high. Could I do this myself. I am no mechanic but it doesn't look that hard.

I think you can get them rebuilt for under $200 at autozone and it couldn't be easier to put in. You should be able to put in a MAF in literally under 5 minutes.

88,
Or you can get a brand new, warranted Wells SU-145 MAF for about $170.00 and never worry about your MAF again. The only operational difference is that the Wells MAF flows more than even a gutted Bosch MAF.

Thanks for the input. One $200 part, two screws, and $175 labor. No thanks. I'll do it myself. With my Haynes manual I can do anything! Ha.
Vader, Where can I buy the Wells MAF. This sounds the best to me. Hopefully I could get it locally and not have to wait for shiping. I want to bet my Bird back in action.

BF88,
Any auto parts house that sells Wells/Conrad parts either has one or can get it for you. If you cannot find a supplier, you can check http://www.wellsmfgcorp.com/ for a distributor in your area.
Max,
I think the design of the MAF is better, since it uses the more modern thick-film sensor and flat metal matrix in place of the dual screens. The fact that is has a larger I.D. and no heat sink fins and sampling tube to restrict air flow can't hurt either. The design is basically "borrowed" from the LT1/LS1 MAF design.
