However i do not have duplicates of the '76 I have the original service manual also, isn't there a key code in there or something? could i take this key code to the pontiac dealership and have them make me a new door key and ignition key? Or is the car too old? Please help guys i have some bad luck!

I don't think there is a key code in the service manual. I have seen locksmiths cut keys on the spot (trial and error). I watched it before. They stick the key in, file some off, stick it back in, file more off, and so on till it works. It may not be a 100% match, but it will get the lockcylinder turning so it can be replaced w/ a new one and a matching key.

No idea. I have seen it done, never actually needed it. I'd call a locksmith and explain what happened. See what they say.

well i just had the locksmith come down and put in a new ignition switch cost me $55 however he wants $170 to do the door cause he said since i don't have a locking glovebox he has to get the lock from the door and that makes it hard because he has to take apart the entire door, is there anyway else to do this?

Yes. Go to a parts store and get a set of OEM replacement locks for your car for about twenty bucks, then install them yourself.

At least you only have two doors and a hatch. I did this once on an Astro van, with all the friggin' doors. That shot that afternoon...

Yeah, do the doors yourself. You don't need to rotate the door cylinders like you do the ignition cylinder. Parts stores usually sell a pair of cylinders w/ a pair of keys.

Dude, find a real locksmith.

The guy did my doors in about 15 minutes, and the door was locked, no way to open it.

Sounds like this guy is either pulling your leg, or doesn't know jack.

Replacing the whole lock is going to be the cheapest way to do it. I had to re-do the doors and ignition on my SafariWagon when I lost they keys. I ended up having three keys because the tailgate lock was a special piece. Once you can get in to the car, it should only take a couple hours, max. As a bonus, you will have all new, smooth operating lock cylinders.

Don't we (well I do) have a locking box in the hatch that uses the same key as the door?
