Questions about removing smog pump...

thje physical removal is fairly straight forward, and I have found the belt info in the FAQ's,and I know it will set an SES light, but my question is this...

does it have to be "deleted" from the chip??
or will the car run ok with no ECM mods??

You can "dummy" the wire harness with a 47 ohm resistor to emulate the port/divert solenoids. That may solve the error code problem.

As for the actual air injection, your cat converter may not operate at full effectiveness without the sir supply, if you happen to have a cat with an aspirator tube.

Absolutely. I'm just not certain if the '88 models were among those that got a monolythic cat or the closed 3-way, or if they had the AIR tube. Quite a few models of that vintage still had the tube, like most Nopars and some Dorfs.
