AC A/C Compressor Clutch Removal ?
Does any one have pictures on how to remove the AC compressor clutch? Or very, very detailed instructions on how to do it.
I am so confused and can't figure out what exactly I am supposed to be removing and the order stuff comes off. I got the bolt off that is in the center, but now nothing else comes off.
I am driving a 1991 Pontiac Firebird TBI 305.
Thanks in advance,
Rob

I have whole set of tools that I borrowed from a guy at work, but don't know how to use them or where to hook them too. Any pictures of the procedure? Thanks, Rob

I don't have any pics. But, pulling the pully and clutch is like pulling a harmonic balancer. You need the threaded portion that threads into the center where you removed the nut and then there is another screw that should thread into the center of that and then it pulls the pulley assy off.

The pulley and clutch assembly will come off together. When you start to thread in the bolt, it will pull the assembly of the compressor shaft. when you get it off, the clutch plate, clutch coil, and pulley and bearing will come apart. Why are you replacing just the clutch? It is usually cheaper and easier to replace the entire compressor. Besides, you have to make sure you set the proper air gap on the the clutch plate when you put it back together. That is why most shops will replace the entire unit instead of trying to rebuild the old one. That's just my .02. Let me know if you need anything else.
