Unstable Idle

What could cause an unstable idle? It's a comuter controlled quadrajet 305. It doesnt have a idle speed motor or anything. could my float be too high? Or is it something else?

Could be a vacuum leak - check all the vacuum lines for cracks. Can also check by spraying carb cleaner anywhere vacuum could leak from while engine is running - if you spray it and the idle smooths out or increases, you found a leak. BUT DON"T USE STARTING FLUID for this - starting fluid is too volatile and catches fire too easily.

Get a vacuum pump and check the choke cannister on the side of the carb. And basically everything else related to vacuum.
