There are a few stations round here that carry 101 octane fuel. Even one station has 104 octane, race fuel is what the call it. Has anyone ever used this? I'm forced to use 91-93 octane because of my engine setup and PROM tune, but never got up the nerve to spend $4.50 on a gallon of gas. Anyone used it before??

I'm sure alot of the race guys use it, and I'm sure alot of the old farts that were around in the good ol' days of leaded fuel used it as well. I myself, have not.

Unless you're running more than 11:1 compression ratio on the street, you dont need it. Octane is a fuel's resistance to burning. With high compression and lower octane, the fuel wants to ignite before the spark plug does. You need higher octane to control this. However, putting higher octane gas in an engine that doesnt need it will reduce power, as the fuel will not ignite as hard and will not have as much explosive force.

Right. You want to use the lowest octane gas you can in your motor without having detonation problems. That will give you the best mileage, the most power, and the least smelly exhaust.
