Pull the driver's side valve cover, and get the casting number that is printed there. It's usually a 6 or 7 or 9 didget number. Then go to this link, and ctrl+f your number and see what youve got. MorTec, Inc. Chevy Smallblock V-8 Casting Numbers List

Punch the gas petal and look in the rear view mirror.
If ya see a big cloud of tire smoke and suddenly you're thrown back in the seat, ya just might have vortec heads.

Examine your 89 Camaro closely for signs that it's a 96 or newer Chevy truck.

If it seems to be lacking any such evidence, then search your memory carefully for any recollection of replacing your car's heads.

If you come up short on both counts, then it probably has 187s like everybody else's. Which are just about as far from Vortecs as you can get.
