Stumble on moderate takeoffs....still

I don't know what could still be wrong with my car after all I have checked and done to it. It drives fine at all other times, except sometimes on anything harder than a slow takeoff, it will hesitate or stumble for a split second and then everything is fine.
I have cleaned and set the carb by the book. Everything is stock except the Edelbrock headers. Runs strong and gets good gas mileage- 22mpg! Computer stores no codes and never comes on while driving. If I turn the A/C on, it doesn't do it or not as bad.
It will not do it all the time, but usually after the motor has completley warmed up. I also notice that when I use 87 octane, it will sometimes ping if you floor it. It never starves for fuel or anything just runs strong as fast as you want to go. It will start making a ticking noise out of the exhaust like a small leak that I haven't found.
I have checked just about everything. Plugs are new, O2 is new GM, TPS checks out OK with meter, etc.... All the emmisions are still hooked up and work OK, except I get a hiss out of my gas cap when I open it sometimes. What else could be wrong that would make it run like this? Help!

i know on mine if i give it 3/4 throttle or more from a slow roll, with the motor under 1700rpm or so, it will stumble real hard for a split seccond. Is that what its doing?

on mine i believe that its actually flooding a bit, if i get the rpm's up a bit then floor it it'll take off like crazy.

something to think about

It's kind of like that. It does it with about 1/4 throttle for just a split second there is nothing, then it takes off fine.

What are you using for an air cleaner?

Where is the base timing set?

Do you know if your EGR valve is working?

Re: Stumble on moderate takeoffs....still

My air cleaner is a regular Fram, it was changed a few months ago and is still clean.
I can't test my EGR because it is one of those backpressure types that say you can't just pull vacuum on the port and the plunger pull in. However, I have reached under the valve and pulled in the diaphram and it chokes the engine down, so it's not clogged.
I haven't checked my timing. Don't have a timing light yet. I haven't messed with the timing at all.
I drove it last night to the casino about 7 miles away and it drove flawlessly there and back. It was pretty cool to watch people looking at my car as brought it back to me. Got a compliment from the valet people on it. There are not many of these cars around here anymore. There are Camaros, but only a few TransAms or Firebirds. I am glad I got such a good body and interior, now if I can just work this stumbling bug out.
