Starter noise

I just installed a new starter on my Camaro this week and it is making this weird metal on metal squealing noise. It is not the starter gear hitting the flywheel however. What I think is happening is the face of the starter gear is rubbing against the face of the flywheel causing it to make the squealing sound. I'm looking for some suggestions to fix my problem any advice is appreciated. The starter is a Powermaster mini starter, the part number on summit is PWN-9100
My car is a 92 Camaro RS with a 350 out of a 74 Nova and a 700r4 out of an 89 IRoc. Thanks.

Re: Starter noise

I am resurrecting this thread because I am having the same exact issue. I just installed a powermaster 9600 ministarter and in reverse while backing up moderately fast, I hear a loud squeeling chirp which sounds like it could be metal on metal. No noticeable problems while in Drive. 350 motor and 700r4 auto in '88 IROC.
Thanks!!

Re: Starter noise

I ended up ditching the powermaster starter and using a starter off of like a 96 Chevy Silverado or something like that. It's been a while so memory is a bit foggy. Hopefully this helps.
