Distributor woes, Ignition pro's inside please.

I'm running a points style dizzy converted over with the electronic Crane system with rev limiter. My vacumm advance wasn't working properly, come to find out the stock canister (from 1070) wasn't holding vacumm. So I went to the parts store today and got a new one for a delco dizzy like mine, identical to the one I took out. Now I installed it and I tested it by sucking on the nozzel on the canister and holding my tongue on it and letting my tongue off, it does hold vacumm, but my question if this. The bottom plate on the dizzy is still pretty hard to move by hand. Is this normal? Are you supposed to be able to move that bottom plate pretty easily? Am I just worrying too much? The dizzy is out of the car right now. Will my vacumm advance work?

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Zach

Re: Distributor woahs, Ignition pro's inside please.

Well there is a pretty strong spring in that holds the vacuum advance closed. look under the cap and see if you have any oily crud built up there that would slow down the movement. you'll also see the spring i'm talking about. if you have any gummy oil there clean it out with an old toothbrush and some brakeclean(doesn't leave any residue and evaporates quickly).
