Smog removal question
I have already read the tech article on removing the smog pump and rerouting the belt. I bought a Gatorback 96.75" belt the closest I could find to the 96.8" mentioned in the article, but it is too short. Does anybody know which belt I need? This is for a 5.7 TPI and All serpentine components are stock.

Re: Smog removal question
that article is wrong i suppose. it was wrong for me, it needs updated.
they said to use the 93 inch belt for smog pump removal and underdrive pulley.... well it didnt work, my stock belt worked fine for the removal of the smog pump and the underdrive pulley. I didnt use the smaller alternator pulley tho but i dont think it will matter as the 93 inch version is too short to begin with, its way off.
Just guestimate how much more belt length you'd need. rerouting the belt with stock pullies will require longer belt than stock. i think the stocker is 94.5 inch or so but i'm not sure, just estimating from the 93 incher i bought. if 96.8 didnt work, then get a belt thats a few inches longer. go to the auto parts store and look for a belt that is of or near that length. you'll be fine
EDIT: i got the alternator pulley put on and the stock belt was too long by 1/2 inch. the recommended 930 belt was way too short so i got a 940...94 inch long and its perfect.

Re: Smog removal question
96.6" belt is perfect for all my stock components. Are you absolutely sure you routed the belt correctly? If so, you could run a string around all your pulleys the way the belt should run. When you have it right just pull the string off and measure the length. Don't forget about the tensioner though.

I was TBI, and the belt in the article didn't do it for me either - I had to just estimate the right length (based on how wrong the belt I had was) and have the parts guy get a few different lengths til I got it right.

I'm using the 96.8" belt right nwo and it is fine. I wish it was a little shorter but one is not available that is just a "little" shorter. I've even used a 97" belt and that worked as well.

Re: Smog removal question
Thanks for the replies. I picked up a 98" and it fits just right.
