lokar dipstick for 305TPI

I have a '91 Trans Am with the standard 305TPI engine. However the previous owner had pacesetter 1336 headers installed when he had the engine rebuilt. So now the stock dipstick and tube are blocked by the headers and I need to buy a flexible one.

I have gone ahead and done some searching on the boards and I believe the Lokar flexible dipstick here is the one I need: http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

I just want to make sure that this is the right one to buy before I go and spend over $50. Also what is involved in putting this dipstick on? I'm a relative newbie when it comes to engine work and the like, so any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

That's the right dipstick, but I can't imagine headers blocking the dipstick tube on a stock '91 engine.

I would avoid that dipstick. The oil fill marking at the bottom of the dipstick itself is very thin and mine broke off. Had to send it back to summit to get my money back. Get another stocker and just bend it to fit, or get a mr gasket chrome dipstick from autozone or advance. That's what I did.

that picture on the summit page is nearly real size of the dipstick, you have to touch the headers just to check the oil pretty much.. i have it but i would try and find a more appropriately sized one in the future

Re: lokar dipstick for 305TPI

I just bought the Mr. Gasket flexible stainless steel chrome dipstick. I tried to install it and it just would not go in the hole. Crude jokes aside... any of you guys have this trouble? I read on another column that the chrome had to be ground off the end for it to fit. Can you guys help me out? should I return it and get the more expensive lokar one? also... mine came with an extra piece... a a clear rubber tube with a slightly different end on it. Is it an adapter. I have a 1986 305 TPI.
