A/C helppppp

Ok, a/c was working fine yesterday. I heard a loud pop coming from passanger side of car. I got out to see if i threw a belt or anythign like that, everything was in tact. 6 hours later, my a/c/heater does not blow air. Cant even feel warm or cold air comign from vents when the unit is off or on. Is this the blower motor??

Also the compressor sounds like a train when running. Like engaging and disengaging about 20 times a minute on occasion.. is it going bad? please tell me its not haha its expensive. Or is it just natural?

The compressor cycling constantly is typical of a low refrigerant charge.

Hard to say about the pop. I've never heard a motor do that, but, doesn't mean that isn't what it was.

Re: A/C helppppp

If it came from the passenger side, it's quite possible. Check the unit

Re: A/C helppppp

This is going to sound a little crazy, last time (and first time) I heard a loud POP from the passenger side, the alternator blew a diode. Being in electronics I had heard that sound before. Sure enough, no more charge.

Check the alternator that it is charging the battery, and that the ripple is within spec.

The small GM alternators that are on our cars can not handle a weak battery. If the battery is on the old side the alternator can not keep up. I've seen this often with the CS series alternators.

RBob.

Ok well it turned out to be the blower motor. thank god because it was only 20 bucks. how much refrigerant does a third gen hold? i added about 16 oz and it is still cycling, not as bad but still doing it.

Re: A/C helppppp

How often is it cycling on and off? It is normal for the compressor to cycle On and Off while running under certain conditions. It will cycle faster when the fan is at lower speeds and with colder outside temperatures. Is the accumulator (the silver can by the fan motor) icing up? It's going to be hard to get the refrigerant charge right by pressure alone with the colder outside temps. Only way to get it exactly right is to weigh in the charge after pulling a vacuum. Overcharge is just as bad or worse than an undercharge.

Re: A/C helppppp

That sounds like a lot to me, but if the blower speed was on low and it was cool outside, I would say that is probably OK.
