Hey just wondering if anyone is running the new patriot performance cylinder heads. They look like they have some decent flow numbers and are drilled and tapped for both intake and valve cover patterns. Just looking for some first hand experiance with these heads. I can get them for a killer price completly assembled. Might be a good gift for the engine. Any thoughts?? Thanks
im woundering the same thing. i found some patriot heads on ebay for $875 for a pair. and the specs are what i been looking for to.
if they are half decent ill probably pick me up a set
how much would you buy a pair for? if there cheaper then $875 for a pair of heads let me know!!!
Hey i was looking at the patriot Freedom series. They have 190cc intake runners with 64cc chambers and 2.02/1.6 stainless vavle's assembled with guid plates and 3/8 studs. May not be what you are looking at but they would work great for my street engine. They are on sale in Canada at Mopac for $773 plus tax's for the pair!! That is my shop cost and the monthly special. They normally go for about $840 regular cost. Anyone got any suggestions!!!! They seem to get a fairly good revue in the magazines and already have a bowl blend and gasket match work done. I was looking at the Edelbrock RPM heads originally do to cost, Im on a tight budget with the 3yr old etc. But these are Cheaper and have just as good of flow characteristics.
ive had the patriot 195cc aluminum heads, ported with 5 angle valve job, stainless valves, vitton seals, CNC axis bowl blend and roller dual spring upgrade good for .670 lift. i got them for 890 shipped to my door assembled. they seem like really good heads i have yet to assemble the 383HSR with them but im in the process of getting gaskets which i just tried to match a set of 1205 felpros that the HSR requires and they dont seem to fit the heads... they dont line up with the intake and if u line up the intake runners then the bolt hols/water passeges are off.
like mentioned in other threads, its said they need a 1206 or 1266 intake gasket.
if the heads are a vortec port designed head, then you'll need vortec base, we all know this.
if it isnt, and have trouble finding the proper fitting gasket (i know AFR's arent quite 1205 but not 1206 either) you can use the Right Stuff liquid gasket. I used it on my HSR L98 and it works great. I will be using it on the AFR heads i just ordered too!
yea i did try that lol. yea as orr89rocZ stated that the say it requires a 1206 or 1266 gasket for the patriots. it was small 3 words that was in like 8 pages full of type on skips whites performance website... i didnt see it but i asked on 3rdgen.org and even orr89rocz stated i needed the 1205 lol who knows. i'll be ordering the 1266's bc there thicker and im sure they will fit fine. the quality of these heads are good. and i wouldnt worry about the ports, i will be doing port matching tho and cleanin up the exhause side ports a lil bit more to fully take advantage of the heads highflow #'s and the intakes ability to flow the exact same.
i would watch out with squeeze out with the rightstuff. and i would only use that with the valley since cork has a tendency to blow out. best would be a paper gasket, right stuff works great but is messy. i would def use right stuff on other non critical parts like valleys, waterpump with paper gasket, theromstat housing. i also use right stuff to hold gaskets when assembling.
hey i weighed patriot heads... fully assembled each weighs 23.5lbs! thats half the weight of iron and u can def feel the diff when ur leaning over an engine. and i work out, im young and pretty strong and gettin the iron heads in and outof the engine bay is a painnn lol.
yeah its messsy but if done right, it looks pretty clean. cant be the seal tho. just gotta wipe the excess up around the ports and such, which is easy to do with a long screwdriver and the HSR manifold
well most of the heads out there are utilizing the larger port sizes.... longer actually. by them doing this they increase port velocities and increase power without having huge wide ports... alot like the LS2/LS6/LS7 heads.they are tall and narrow this all takes after vortec heads long narrow runners hence why they flow so well.
most of the newer heads like AFR and i think brodix platnum series etc require the 1206... the money u would save with the patriot heads u could just but a new HSR that will be the newer style and is large enough for the 1206. with some porting.
i gotem bc they seem like a good head and the #'s are great and the price is great so i did, hopefully my motor will be goin in the spring/summer and i'll let u kno
Thats all great info guys thanks!! Now does anyone know how well those ports will match up with an edelbrock RPM-Air-Gap manifold?? I guess that will find out in the next few months since I ordered a set> Let us know how the engine runs!!
Chevy High Performance magazine put a set of the Patriot Super Street 215 heads on a 383 a couple of issues back. They flowed and performed really good. The Super street heads come CNC ported form Patriot. I am building a 400 for this spring and I am going with the Patriot Super Street 215 heads with 64cc chamber but I am using Comp Cams Beehive springs and hardware. I am ordering them with valves and seals in place and they are going to drill the steam holes for my 400 so I don't have to worry about screwing that up. These are some great heads for the money without a doubt. I'm shooting for 450-500lb ft of torque with my new combo and around 450+ horsepower. Should move my Z around pretty good.
i would think u would make alot more than 450hp and 500ftlbs.... im hoping for that with my 383 HSR, wat are u running as far as intake/cam? those 215 are gona flow a buttload of air even on that 400 u should be pullin to 6000 depending on cam and intake
I am going to run an Edelbrock Air Gap RPM intake with a Holley 750. I may go with the Holley 750 HP series carb with vac secondaries since I run with an auto trans with a 3000 stall converter. The rear has a posi unit with 3.73 gears and stud girdle cover to keep flex in check. I am hoping that this thing runs hard that's for sure. I forgot to mention that the cam is a Trick Flow retro hydraulic piece with .528/.539" with 1.5 roller rockers but I am going with 1.6 roller rockers instead. It has .230/.234" @ .050 lift with 110 LSA.
yea your def gona be pullin more than 450hp. id say u should break the 500 mark easily. ur cam is a good choice altho alil more duration and higher lifts would have gotten u more topend and prob alil more hp your lobe is alil close but since your not runned EFI it should be ok its def gona have alil lope to it. thats really close to my cam specs im running a comp cams XFI280 230/236 .567/.571 with 1.6 extruded full roller rockers and 113lobe and this is gona be wit my patriot 195cc i should be making between 480-500hp at the crank so u should be up alil higher wit the extra cubes and larger cc heads.
Every time I see this thread, the first thing that comes to mind is seeing a thread about not being able to get any power out of an engine with these heads, and the cause was determined to be the shameful quality of the machining, and that an immediate 25% HP jump was achieved when a similar set of brand-name heads was installed. Mind you, I've searched and can't find that thread, but I can't shake the notion that it exists.
It may have been a different manufacturer, but that's what comes to mind.
The guy that sells them on ebay gets the castings and builds the heads himself by what I have read from others. I am going through Patriot at the manufacturer talking to Gunner Bowlin, their tech. This brand has quite the following from the LS engine guys as well as the Ford mod crowd for putting up big numbers. When they decided to get into the 1st gen engine heads, I have read the stories and forums and yes they did have some issues when they first came out but their quality has been much improved with their new heads. The Super Street heads come cnc ported with great flow numbers. Check out their web page and go to the flow data they have posted for their heads and compare.
