tune up help?

so i recently purchased my first car, 1985 Camaro IROC
its a quadrajet v8, i was just wondering if anyone could give me a run down on how to give it a tune up.
this includes replacing all the spark plugs, new wires, cap and rotor.
i can run out and get the parts whenever, i only have limited experience around engines but i get the gist of how everything works. any help would be appreciated,
thanks

Congrats on your purchase.

Your profile info says "HO", but that doesn't look like an L69. Air cleaner and AC line are the give-aways.

Anyway, yes; plugs, wires, cap, rotor are involved. I'd also include air and gas filters, and O2 sensor.

You should set the timing (disconnect the flat 4-wire connector that goes from the distributor base to the firewall harness), a little more advanced than factory usually helps these cars run better. The do the carburetor adjustments as documented in the E4ME sticky in the top section of the Carburetor forum (IAB, TPS, idle speed, choke pull-off, high idle speed, etc.).

Wait, you're in Canada. You probably don't have an E4ME, so forget flat 4-wire connector, and the IAB & TPS stuff.

Re: tune up help?

I tried Bosch spark plugs first. The Bosch plugs cost but didn't work well; the AC Delcos have been good. Have Rapid Fires in mine. Probably overkill but no troubles from the sparks. Also, the AC Delco spark plugs are the ones designed for your car.

Re: tune up help?

Also a new PCV valve and breather filter help.

And just briefly go over the vacuum lines and make sure none are broken.
