Air cleaner options

Looking at putting an open air cleaner on my trans am, it currently has a TBI unit of a chevy truck. (previous owner did this not me) I don't have a performance store of any kind anywheres near me so going to them is out of the question. Im just wondering what I can use on my engine to get me in the ballpark...I will experiment with filter hieght afterwards but for now I would like to know what kind of air cleaner I can get...Ive seen talk about drop base on here and some other things does it make a difference which on I go with? (other than how tall of a filter I can run) Also I was wondering what size the opening needs to be its for a holly 600CFM DP and if it makes a difference my valve covers have those big wing nut things that stick up above the vavle cover. Any help would be great.

Holley has a 5-1/8 mouth opening. A standard base with a 3" filter wouldn't work (though that set-up with a 2 1/2" filter fit) on my application; however, a 1/2" drop base and 3" filter was the ticket. You probably won't know what's required until you try.

Re: Air cleaner options

No store around me stocks that stuff so if it doesn't work I would be stuck with it cause they would have to order it...(dumb I know) So I would probally be best to start with a drop base of some sort....Some one once told me that I would lose some hp due to the drop base, if there was any I wouldn't think it would matter. My motor isn't stock but it isn't a race motor ethier (roughly 300hp) So I wouldn't think it would matter would it?
