Vortec heads will they work with stock TBI manifold

I currently got a hold of a 91 vert with a blown engine. The car has a 350 TBI and I currently have an 85 carb 350. I want to see if i can remove my engine install it on the vert but keep it TBI. would the TBI manifold bolt of to vortec heads?

Not really. Not a big deal though.

Get a Performer RPM manifold for Vortecs, and an adapter. Done.

Re: Vortec heads will they work with stock TBI manifold

i have a performer rpm manifold currently on my 85 i was unaware that there was an adapter. i'll go take a look online thanx but then i'm in trouble once smog time comes around and thats why i want to get rid of my 85. I guess my best bet would be just to rebuild the engine in the 91 vert. thanx sofa

Re: Vortec heads will they work with stock TBI manifold

because the edelbrock performer rpm manifold is not smog legal or am i misinformed about this?

also i have a 95 z28 camshaft with rockers and am wondering what valve springs would i need to make that work with my engine?

Re: Vortec heads will they work with stock TBI manifold

Well Vortec heads are't "smog legal" on anything but a 96 to whatever pickup with CFI, either, as far as that goes.

Just exactly how "smog legal" do you have to be?

For the springs, there's a "beehive" that's a direct drop-on. I can't recall the #. Those would be the way to go.

Re: Vortec heads will they work with stock TBI manifold

oh ok but well I'm in California and i just don't want to worry about upcoming smog checks to renew my registration every two years. I don't really care for performance anymore i just want a clean cruiser to drive to work once in a while and take out on the weekends. but i figured since i have a good engine in the 85 and the 91 needs a rebuild y not swap them. But i think I'm just going to sell the 85 and just get a stock rebuild on the 91 and throw in the 95 z28 cam unless that won't let me pass smog aswell

I guess I don't see where Vortec heads come into the picture. Nothing you've stated as a parts source has Vortec heads on it.

The only legal engine in the '91 would be a '91-later passenger car engine system. That means TBI, TPI, LTx, or LSx - assuming you stay within the Chevrolet/Pontiac lines. Note I said "system", because whatever you put in has to have all of the stuff the factory used for that particular engine or induction type.

Re: Vortec heads will they work with stock TBI manifold

vortec heads came in because i was thinking of swapping engines between my two cars and well my 85 already has them. But i'm going to try and rebuild the stock engine in it instead.

How have you been getting the '85 through smog?

Okay, it's starting to make sense now.

I'm sure someone in a non-emissions area or looking for a track-only car would be very happy with it.
