Replacing '89 Camaro Gas Tank

Any recommendations on how to go about replacing a gas tank on a lightning quick '89 Camaro? It's a 350 bored .30 over with a holley supercharger, flowmasters, etc.. Would you recommend replacing the gas tank just with a new 14 gallon tank, or installing a fuel cell in the trunk? Is this something to take to a mechanic or is it fairly easy to remove/install?

Re: Replacing '89 Camaro Gas Tank

In this case "the trunk" is the passenger compartment, so I would replace the tank. Unfortunately it's not easy. The exhaust and the rear end have to come out (or at least be dropped down). There are also all the lines to deal with. You probably want to have it done if you're not up for a pretty big project.

Oh man, wasn't expecting it to be a massive project.. Any idea on what would be a fair price for this kind of a job?

As long as it's not too rusty, I'd expect to pay $100-$150 in labor if it was around here (plus the tank and any lines of course). You should have them change the filter and maybe the pump if it has a lot of miles on it.
