I once heard someone say that if you have a high mileage motor.. And if your motor starts burning oil.. Run seafoam through it and itll help get the carbon off the pistons and the rings will perform better? Therefore stopping the oil burning? Just replaced plugs, oil, and all that stuff and my car still burns oil.. but runs really good.. I'm thinking its the rings now.. And it probably has an *** load of carbon build up in the engine.. Im going to run a can of seafoam through the engine.. just waiting for a windy day. lol. Heres a small description of my car: The car runs excellent.. Idles(usually.. right now has a vacuum leak) like it should.. at about 1.1k rpms cold and about 700-800 warm.. Drives excellent.. Doesnt seem like its lacking power at all. If you substract the oil burning.. The car runs excellent.. If the rings are completely shot.. Im just going to get rid of the car and get another

Have you replaced the valve stem seals yet? They are a "normal" problem with these cars.

seafoam is a great product, and i use/have used it on all of my vehicles and seen solid results, but i dont think Seafoam would necessarily help with your oil burning issue.

seafoam's main purpose is a strong cleaner/detergent, pour it through the intake and it cleans out your valves/chamber/etc of carbon and similar deposits. when you put it in your gas, it cleans out the lines, etc. when you put it in your crankcase, it breaks up the "goup" and grime.

i just dont seem to think that it would help prevent oil loss.

as far as using some to clean things up a bit, definitely! just follow directions, and if you choose to put some in your crankcase do it before you change your oil, i usually put a teaspoon in, run the engine for 5-10 mins and drain the oil.

do some searching, there are 1,000's of threads relating to seafoam, just dont let anybody scare you away, because if they had issues with it i doubt they used it properly.

I also like the seafoam cleaner. Ive used it on several past cars of mine and the one Im currently in, and it seems to work well. Ive never heard of it helping oil burning, actually ive heard the opposite, the theory being that in an older engine with worn out seals and rings, the carbon build up can actually be doing some sealing. who knows how true this is, but I would be leaning towards valve seals or rings. Is the oil coming out the exhaust or can you just smell it? Ive mistaken rear seal leaks dripping on the exhaust for oil burning before-just an idea. best of luck!
