Need help 1992 Camaro RS 305 V8 serpentine belt question

Hi everyone,

Just picked up my 1992 Camaro RS 25th anniversayr today I was quite excited. On the way home I threw a serpentine belt, no big deal. Well when I went to put one on I noticed that the unit with a pulley that is driectly underneath the air conditioning on the passengers side is GONE. Somehow the previous owner had that removed and ran a belt bypassing that pully all together. I worked on it all night and could not run a belt (tried all different sizes and ways to run it) without that pulley. I know there is a way since the previous owner did and the car was fine, any ideas or diagrams that may help me out. Has anyone else done this to their Camaro? Any help will be appriecitated since I want to get out driving my new toy ASAP!

Thanks,

Darren

Welcome to TGO. A search will often find all the info you require. Try the following threads. The first has a diagram toward the end, the second info about the delete pulley:

http://sethirdgen.org/serpentine.htm

http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/fa...lete-smog.html (1LE / AC Delete / Smog Delete Pulley info)

Thanks for the welcome and the quick help with my problem. I have tried to run a belt as that diagram shows without the smog pulley. But I have yet found a good fitting belt. I've tried a handfull of different sizes but do you have any idea if there is a certain belt or size that I can get to make it fit well enough to run. Any and all help is greatly needed and apriciated.

Thanks,

Darre.

This from the first link: "If you are going to remove the smog pump, you will need to re-route the belt differently, causing you to need a different size belt. I used a Dayco 968K6."

You can also try Goodyear #4060967 either will work or just find a belt that is 97 inches long.

Hey thanks guys I purchased that goodyear belt and ran it with the diagram using bypassing the smog pulley. Would you guys recomend leaving the belt ran that way or should I purchase the somg delete pulley to run the belt back the stock way?

Thanks,

Darren

Pretty much your choice. Personally (because I'm anal about such matters), I'd run the delete pulley.

I've ran mine without the delete pulley for 2 years and she's doing great. It's a personal choice either way will do just fine!
