Oil Filter question

I've searched and found nothing on the topic. I just bought a 1988 Camaro Irco-Z 305 TPI. I did a full tune up. When I bought my parts from the auto parts store. I was given a Ac Delco PF-454 oil filter. I got a call from the mechanic and he said the filter was wrong. Now I've searched and searched and only came up with this filter to use. The filter he gave me and using currently is a Ac Delco PF-1218. The 1218 is quite taller than the 454.

I haven't seen any clearence issues. On all the search areas it came up with the 454, not the 1218. Should I worry about this?

Re: Oil Filter question

I have read where the pf25 was replaced with the pf454. The pf35 was replaced with the pf1218.

What would the point of using the pf1218? I haven't had this happened to me. Only thing I notice that the 1218 is taller.

Re: Oil Filter question

The PF1218 has more filter surface area. Any of those filters would be more than adequate.

Re: Oil Filter question

The 1218 also does not have an anti-drain back valve. I believe the 454 does. Personal preference, but I use filters with the anti-drain back valve whenever possible. Keeps the oil primmed better after shutting the engine off.

Re: Oil Filter question

The K&N Filter is a good alternative to AC Delco. Although, I have seen this new retro look PF25 AC Delco filter for sale.
