With the A and B terminals jumped can I run my motor without it recognizing that the egr is no longer there. I have put a new set of heads and headers on my car and deleted everything emissions related. I have a guy that is going to delete the egr from the computer but I just need to get it to him.
Rather than putting the car on a trailer I was wondering if I could just jump the terminals and drive it up to him. This will also give me a chance to bleed the coolant/adjust my valve lash. I do realize it runs a bit rich running it this way but I don't have a car hauler and he cant come to me, any help is appreciated.
P.S. will the fans still come on with the terminals jumped???
With the egr stuff gone the service engine light will probably come on. I wouldnt worry about it if your going to delete it from the chip's program anyway.
I am not worried about a light, I am worried about making it up to the shop to get the egr deleted as some ecms will make a car run god awfull when someone deletes an egr an runs it with out it being tuned out. So.....if I did jump the wires is the egr part of the basic functions of "field service mode" or "Limp mode". On these cars???
All these issues with removing the emissions devices, when you could have left it well enough alone and not have these problems? Make sure you save the parts. I'm sure sometime in the next four years Obama is going to make all states do emissions testing in the name of "global climate change."
Dont drive it with the A-B terminals jumped. It wasnt designed to operate that way.

I'm not having issues because I removed my emissions devices, I'm having issues getting the car to the person whom is going to remove it from the ecm I was going to have to take it to this person anyway as he is going to custom tune it because he is cheep and I don't feel like buying all this crap to do my own tuning when this is as far as my cars "mods" will ever go.....so its a one time deal.
However I will agree with you that at some point smog checks will come back to my state.....It won't be anytime in the near future.....but I did keep everything I took off for that reason.
Isn't part of what egr does is to cool the combustion chamber so you can run a little more timing on cheap gas? So by removing it, you have to run higher octane to get the same timing? Is this right?
I believe the programming in the chip has a separate timing advance table that it kicks in any time it is commanding the EGR valve to open (i.e. it adds more timing). Turn off the EGR in the chip and that timing table never gets used and it runs off the standard advance table. No harm, no foul, except for increased part throttle emissions.
I would NOT jumper the terminals, however, to drive it around. The ECM can handle a non-functional EGR system- it'll just throw a code and keep on going. With the terminals jumpered you're running in full limp-home mode which will probably run a lot worse than it would with just a non-functional EGR system.

Thats exactly what it does, but it only operates in highway mode

Thank you sir. I ran it up to operating temp and all seems well. I did NOT jump the terminals and it ran fine. Odd thing is though....its not throwing any codes at all.....maybe I just havnt ran it long enough but I did run it for 30 min. or so. Oh well no harm no foul I will drive it up to get a new chip burned next week and I think I'll be fine, it's only 5 miles away from where I'm at now. Thanks for the help.
P.S. Its open headers right now but I've got 2.5 in. dynomax bullets that are going on it dumped before the axle with an H pipe. I hope I don't regret this as I think its going to be way to loud but....Ive heard mixed opinions so....
The ECM won't attempt to open the EGR valve just idling/revving it in the driveway, even if it's fully warmed up. It's gotta be in gear, under load, driving around. Lots of times it'll pop the code after drivign on the highway at a steady speed for a little while.
