SLP CAI on a Firebird

I was just reading my instructions today. I have to move the charcoal canister to the other side where the battery is!!

There is NO room at all. SLP is nuts.

Can I just get rid of it---theres no emssions testing here.

Any tips? I don't want to throw a CEL.

Also--this is the hose going from the MAF to the TB--what the hecks up with the metal divider?? That would seem to restrict airflow!

The metal divider helps the air make the turn, leave it the way you found it. Your SLP cAI is a speed mod, well, so is relocating the battery to the rear of the car, like, in that well behind the left rear tire, opposite the spare tire behind the right rear tire. Summit Racing and Jegs both sell a couple of good kits to do this.

It's the battery, or the smog device or the CAI. You can't have it all. Moving the battery is neat and easy, and helps performance. The kits are high quality, safe, and low cost.

Re: SLP CAI on a Firebird

thats cool---I don't want it all Ideally, yes I would like it in the back....

But no ones going to help me move the battery--I lack the skills to do it solo and am I done spending money on the car this year (paying some one)

I don't know why the instructions say to don't move the battery. Obviously your right--it has to be moved if the canister is being relocated.

Re: SLP CAI on a Firebird

I have the SLP CAI and the canister is shoved in by the battery. Mine is at a friend's shop right now and this is the only picture I have. If you look at the right of the picture you can see the top of the canister to the left of the battery.

My charcoal canister fits and I have the same year car that you do. Also a bigger aftermarket radiator. For a look see look in this thread and scroll down to reply #21 and the left picture.
