Distributor Gear Wear

I'm getting some gear wear it's been about 1500 miles on this Dist. My previous dist also had gear wear @ about 1500 miles but was worse than this. There both reman autozone specials. There has been no machine work done to the block. It has Trick Flow Heads, Hot Cam & Edelbrock TPI base. I had this engine in my 84 Bird for 20k miles but it had a flat tappet cam, stock heads & performer intake Running the computer controlled carb/dist & there was no gear wear.

It looks like the gear is not going down far enough. The other side of the gear has no wear at all not sure if thats normal.. Here are some pics there not the greatest though. I've searched the forums but hopefully some has some new info.

thanks

Re: Distributor Gear Wear

might be the wrong gear material for the cam-flat
tappet cams are made of cast iron, roller cams of
steel-if steel gear used with steel cam wear can
result(especially with recent oils that are low on
anti-scuff additives)with steel cams an iron distributor
gear is used(have seen brass gears too,but those are
meant for racing as far as i know-probably would
wear fast for street use)
Also a high volume oil pump will put a lot of load on
that gear-especially with thick oil.
