Re: What is the best camshaft

You're not going to get your 305 to make your desired 350+ HP without either Nitrous or boost, whether supercharging or turbocharging. The cheapest way to get there is a Vortec-headed 350.
For now, a cam only, on an otherwist stock car like yours, might get you 20 horses, at best. If you're going to do that, you may as well do an intake manifold at the same time. The thing about doing a cam is you'll need to buy a different one for your vortec-headed 350. Better to put the money into headers and exhaust.
There are thousands of cams, but for your car as described, I'd suggest www.summitracing.com search CCA-12-388-4.

You want fries with that too? haha, sorry, but as Atilla mentioned, that's a heck of a lofty goal!
Do a cam and heads, and hope for 300HP.

If you don't need emissions-legal, I know how to get 370 crank HP from a stock LG4 short-block.

it ain't that hard to get 350 horses out of a 305. and if u guys think its hard then u guys don't know how to build motors. i have nothing internally done i have just bolt ons on my 305 and i'm pushing 340 hp no cam no nos no turbo no supercharger. just msd dist, coil, 8mm wires headers. my stock 305 came with 295 hp

Re: What is the best camshaft

Which stock 305 came rated at 295 HP, I never heard of any?
First gen Camaro 302's Conservatively rated at 290 hp, actual output was around 375 hp.
Im not making fun but the 3rd gen Firehawks made 350 HP with some majors engine/ intake tuning mods, so for you to pull 340 HP with only bolt-ons, thats impressive.
You have a dyno to show?

Re: What is the best camshaft

If you found it., it's a typo. The LB9s did not exceed 230 HP. As for emissions legal, you don't even have smog testing in Tooele. Yet.

Re: What is the best camshaft

right but my car was a colorado cop car. and i also read on this site that police intercepters smog pumps were gutted out. don't know if thats true. i do live in tooele and yeah i got rid of my cats but my smog pump is still on there. don't know if its gutted out or not it's hasn't slowed me down.

i'm not on this post to talk about my car i have enough of those. i'm on here to tell this guy that if he wants 350hp on his 305 its possible all u 305 haters just don't know, not everyone has a 350 just laying around so people will just fix up there 305 with the money that they got and with his carbed 305 he shouldn't have a hard time doing it my tpi unit is actually holding my 305 back. but sense my car is a b4c i'm tring to keep it as stock as i can to hold value.

Re: What is the best camshaft

first off were does tooele not having emissions have to do with it. even though tooele does not do emissions the car still came with emissions. yes i have cut the cats out why because i can because i live in tooele. and yeah ur right a smog pump doesn't take away sixty hp police interceptor yes lb9 block, with 21lbs injecters, 10111773 cam shaft, and 1.6 rockers. way differant from reguler lb9. so if the stock lb9 has 230 hp u throw in the police interceptor package(21lbs injecters, 10111773 cam shaft, and 1.6 rockers) i bet it still doesn't have 230 hp. the reguler lb9 has what some call the peanut cam 19lbs injectors and 1.5 rockers @230hp. so i might be wrong and yeah all my info was found on the net. so i might not have proof form the dealer. in 1992 but i know because i have looked up all the numbers my cam rockers and injecters are bigger then a non b4c police intercepter. not only a lb9 but check out the g92 package.

Atilla

man i'm not fighting with u ya u are probably right but i did forget that my car is bored 040 over. but i'm driving proof that u can build a good 305 yes u can build a 350 alot more and alot cheaper. but as i also read i could be wrong but a tpi is holding back a 350 so i might as well have fun with my 305 unitl i can afford a diff intake set up. but this guy don't have a tpi so not a prob for him. i just hate reading all these post about guys wanting to do something with there 305 and the only answer everyone gives him is put a 350 in it. not everyone can get a 350 so help him on his ?.

we pretty much just took over this guys thread. i'm sorry that we did that me and atilla don't hate each other just. we are just bumping heads.

atilla my brother works at logan harley davidson so yeah i'm up there alot when my camaro is done (blew up the tranny again) i get ahold of u and we will go cruise and if ur ever down this way let me know.

Re: What is the best camshaft

I wasn't bearing any grudge, and I too apologize for hijacking the thread, if anyone feels we did. I think it's good to examine both sides of the issue. As far as I'm concerned, there's no bolt-on way to get a 305 to make 350 horses while still being absolutely legal to the letter of the law, unless using a supercharger.
I've built and driven some truly strong 305s, but once you go 350, you never go back without begrudging it.
alek72us, I'll PM ya.
