how f'ed am i

when i was removing my dist clamp the nut for the top of the stud fell down the dist hole, i heard it hit few things, im really hoping its in the valley or found its way to the bottom of the oil pan, im gona rotate the motor a few times by hand just to make sure nothing is bout up, i did stick the oil pump primer tool down there and ran that for anout 10 seconds and i didnt hear anything rattling around or moving but im seriously pissed off at myself and concerned, and i really dont want to take my motor apart again, especially in the final steps of getting it back together

I dropped an egr stud in a dizzy hole one time and with some precise "operation like" movements I was able to retrieve it with an extendable magnet. mine landed in the lifter valley though. You might have to drop the pan.

run a magnet across the bottom of the oil pan. if there's a bolt you'll hear her sliding around in there.

Re: how f'ed am i

I loosend up the oil pan and shook it around and you can hear it rattling around one of the corners in the deeper part of the pan, i cant get it out because i cant remove the oil pan unless theres another way to remove it on the car, and its too big to go thru the drain plug hole, I am really pissed at myself over this but I think the nut should stay put down there its too big to get sucked up anything, any last minute advice before i put everything back together would be awesome

unbolt the motor mounts. Jack up the motor about two inches. take two pieces of wood and place them between the motor mounts.

Re: how f'ed am i

Even if the toque converter and flexplate are there i would be able to remove the pan by lifting it a few inches

Re: how f'ed am i

Yeah. just a couple inches so you can slip something between the motor mounts for a little clearance.

Re: how f'ed am i

dont feel too bad, i dropped a cut-off 9/16 box wrench down that holes, it ended up in the lifter-bay. I was able to fish it out though.

but yeah, if the nut is in the bottom of the pan, its not going anywhere. there is a screen on the oil pickup, so it cant get sucked up.

Re: how f'ed am i

I would want it out just for peace of mind. if you already cracked the seal you're going to want to pull the pan anyways now. I would use the one piece gasket. costs a bit more but worth having one less headache to deal with.
