Wipers Acting Up 88 GTA

Hi,

From searching here, I THINK the problem is in the circuit board which is on the motor. But I want to hear some opinions.

Here's what happens. When I turn on the wipers, to "delay", nothing. When I then turn them up to "low", nothing. When I turn them up to "high", they come on. When I take them off "high", they stop in the straight up position. When I move it to "off" nothing happens for a while, then they finally go down, and hide. If I use the wipers again before I shut off the car, they work normally, I get delay, low, and high. But once I shut off the car, they go back to their weird ways again.

Any clues ???? Thanks

Re: Wipers Acting Up 88 GTA

hi i ahve an 87 TA and had intermitent wiper problems myself as it it turned out the connector at the base of sterring column had worked itself loose from the tilt steering going up and down over and over for 20 or so years it was as simple as disconnecting the connector and finding one of the wires had come out of the connector. i suggest you pull the large plastic piece of trim that is below your sterring column and you should see a 6 pin connector coming out from the sterring column disconnect it and check to see if any of the wires pulled free from the connector if so that is your problem i just pushed the wires back into the connector and used electrical tape to hold them in place so they wouldnt pull loose again hope this helps

xj7jag,

Thanks. I can't see any trim piece that will come off, near the steering wheel. I see a connector which is already outside the column, with lots of wires going into it. I can check that. Yesterday the wipers were almost normal.
