GAS LEAK AHHH!

So today i went to get my new catalytic converter at the muffler shop. they lift my car look at it for a second, then drop it and say they cant do it because there is a gas leak in the fuel tank somewhere. I checked it and looked and yes that is why all this time my car smelled funny. I thought it was just old or something. so anyone got any tips on how to drop my empty fuel tank in the easiest way so that i can look for the problem?

LOL, there is no "easy way" :-) The rear end and the exhaust have to be dropped to get the tank out.

It shouldn't take too long if you just don't get lazy about it. An hour does suck though, I like to **** around for that long before I usually even get started working on something.

Re: GAS LEAK AHHH!

alright so far ive dropped the tank w/o dropping the rear. I did drop the exhaust though. The fuel tank was leaking at the bottom of the filler neck where it connects to the tank. I found out by dropping the tank that the previous owner had chopped off a small piece of the trunk to access the fuel pump. What a *ick! So how bad can this be that the trunk has been cut? It looks like an even rectangle shape and isnt too big. The anus also put new carpet some time after because the carpet is not cut. Also from looking at the bottom of the car it looks like they sprayed some anti rust material, but they sprayed some over the rust! Ive been very disappointed so far if i find the original owner i will run him over with my car!

Re: GAS LEAK AHHH!

I also wanted to know how to get enough clearance for the fuel neck to go up into its hole it is like not even an inch but it just wont go in. I tried everything and nope still not enough clearance. I am also using this fuel pump: http://www.tpis.com/index.php?module...ory=Fuel+Pumps will it be good if i have no mods done to my car?

Re: GAS LEAK AHHH!

ok all done and i even changed old carquest struts for gabriel ultras and i got a nice ride btw i did drop the rear. It was the only way. the fuel pump is a little louder than the old one when it turns on. i cut the exhaust off and man this car is so loud! just being close to it the ground trembles and the car is basically stock. I only removed smog pump and put k&n filters and tune up is all on the lil 305
