Comp Cams XR264HR

I have a 92 Z28 with the 5.7 TPI. The motor needs rebuilt, so I thought I'd put a little performance upgrade in it. Has anyone out there ever used the Comp Cams XR264HR cam, part no. 08-501-8? If so, any issues using the stock computer, stall, etc?

Re: Comp Cams XR264HR

thats a nice cam, your stock heads will not support the lift even with stock rocker arms. youll need to have your car tuned or burn your own prom since since its speed density. Your stock stall will work fine.

would you recommend dropping down a level in cam? I am new to computer controlled motors, and want to make sure I don't get in over my head on expenses.

Re: Comp Cams XR264HR

to be honest I dont know alot about the speed density other than they are alot more sensitive to change than maf. From what I understand any decent cam worth the time and money for a swap is going to need a program. If anything I would go to a 269hr 12. The car will still be drivable just not as enjoyable as it can be with a tune.

Re: Comp Cams XR264HR

I thought as long as you stayed under.500 lift and replaced the springs with the proper ones in the cam kit all would be fine in a L98 5.7 TPI?? Explain "heads wont handle the lift"??

Comes down to checking out at what lift your heads are maxed out( cfm flow ) ; any more valve lift is not going to gain anything

Your alum Vette heads are different to the cast iron F-Body ones being discussed above

Re: Comp Cams XR264HR

I run a 388 with fast burn alum heads, comp XE262 cam, 10:1 compression, 52mm T-body in front of a modified stock plenum & runners on top of a Scroggin's Dickey High Flow TPI intake, and out SLP 1-3/4" headers.
Idles and sounds pretty much stock until throttle opens up, even with the stock exhaust. Tune was modified only for 30lb injectors, timing, and idle.

Re: Comp Cams XR264HR

as an update to this thread, I went ahead with the xr264hr cam in my car. I also installed roller rockers, had the heads and intake ported and installed headers. Still have to get a tune on it, but managed to get it all buttoned up before winter hit. Will try and finish the project up in the spring with a tune to fit the motor. Seems plenty strong even without a tune on it.

Re: Comp Cams XR264HR

I had the machine shop set the heads up at .488 intake and .495 exhaust respectively.
