my 350 has excessive blowby.
enough to cause oil to leak out of every gasket and seal possible, while lifting the dipstick out of the tube at the same time.
if the engine is cold, and i unplug the breather/pcv (not really either one... just a tube to the intake) it looks like i am purging my nitrous (i dont have nitrous)
anyway.
the PO was the one who built the motor and says it was bored .060 over.
now, to me this says that either the rings are not the right size or i have a hole in a piston or something of that nature, since the engine has less than 20k miles on it since it was rebuilt.
would i be better off to take the thing apart and put new rings in it and hope for the best or should i get a new block, have it machined, then transfer all the parts to the new block (minus the pistons)
i am mostly happy with the power level for now (i estimate about 300 at the wheels)
id like a bit more, but dont really want to spend the money.
i could change the cam in the process, but that would be about it.
i would need new pistons (unless i bored the new block to .060 over as well) but would probably keep the same-ish compression as i already absolutely have to run premium... there isnt much room for more compression unless i backed the timing way off.
what are your opinions?
anyone got a block they want to get rid of?
Do a compression test, that should tell you whether the rings are worn or whether there's a hole in a piston. I wouldn't tear the engine apart before I performed a compression test.
i havent tested all the cylinders, but after 4 or 5 random cylinders, they were all pretty much the same. around 180 psi iirc... it was a while ago, when i first got the car i did a compression test
ill test them all this weekend
Yeah, check them again, post the results of the cylinders, I'll post my haynes manual cylinder PSI specs later tonight, I've gotta get it out of my car.
