Custom power steering install. > questions..

hey guys I installed a lt1 power steering pump from a camaro z28 '95. and can someone take a look at my diagram how I installed it and make sure I did it right? also, i see lots of big bubbles come up while im idling and my turning isnt any easier yet, my fluid level isnt really going down much either. im quite sure my gear box and the new pump is empty, how much does this system hold? I have gotten about half a quart into the system so far, my resevoir holds half a quart and its about 3/4-1/2 full right now. any tips?

I read somewhere that the third gen pump spins the opposite way of the 4th gen one. You may be pumping fluid the wrong way.

Why did you choose to do this anyway?

Re: Custom power steering install. > questions..

would it matter as long as the lt1 pump does turn clockwise and the pressure side from the pump is going into the bigger 18mm fitting on the gear box? and the 16mm fitting is returning to the resevoir then back to the pump?

I chose to do this because my F1 bracket does not leave room for any kind of conventional-to-thirdgens power steering pump so I had to go to a gm type-2 and I chose a lt1 style for its 5/8" neck coming off of it already.

I'm about to get a procharger soon and have read about it on their site. They state that the Type 2 will give you the clearance, and give a Napa #20-704 or the 20-875. So maybe cross reference the one you have?

On a side note, do you have any pics of your setup? Maybe showing the bracket, p.s mounting. Do you have a stock hood?

Re: Custom power steering install. > questions..

their kit is nothing more then a 150 dollar chunk of aluminum. I made my own mounting with march brackets I had laying around.i dont have any good pictures because the mounting is so low, and I have a 2" cowl hood.
