Pan Leak?

Ive got this oil leak, its not much but its enough to drive me crazy, my starter bolts are dripping oil, the trans cooler lines are covered and the flywheel cover is covered, its not coming from the valve cover or anything around there because that whole side of the motor above the starter is dry, the only other place I can think of is the pan, could it be anything else

Re: Pan Leak?

rear main, back china wall where the intake sits. more than likely its an oil pan gasket. not too bad to change.

Re: Pan Leak?

Try a heavier weight oil, if you are using 5-30 it might be to light. Of course this might only be a temporary fix.

Re: Pan Leak?

Did you try tightening-up your oil pan? Fixed mine.

Re: Pan Leak?

Its not the china wall, I was leaking there earlier when I installed my big mouth but i fixed that and its dry as a bone, rear main is still good the converter and all around there is dry, at first I thought it was old oil sitting in the flywheel cover from when the china wall was leaking but thats not it, so I thought it might be a valve cover or something but its all dry, I think I found it, I found some oil pooling up at the bottom of the timing chain cover that may of been leaking down onto the trans cooler lines and just getting blown back by wind or something, so I black RTV'd the bottom of the timing cover gasket and pan, other than that I cant really think of anything else because the pan bolts are all tight

Re: Pan Leak?

The only other thing over there is the oil dipstick tube.

Re: Pan Leak?

The oil pressure sending unit on mine is leaking like a sieve (fixing that today), and I have similar symptoms as you. I'm not saying it is my only problem, but it's definitely dripping a bunch out.

Re: Pan Leak?

when i bought my 84, it leaked like the exxon valdez from the oil pan, when i went to change it he'd double gasketed the oil pan on the right side. not saying thats whats going on with yours but just anything is possible. i still think is probably the oil pan gasket though.
