I took out my 92 rs 3.1 for a road test after cam install and it was shifting hard(automatic),I went to adjust the TV cable for the first time since I got it and it didn't click like it supposed to,waht could be the trouble,,thanx guyz
If you held the button down and retracted the cable then the mechanism is probably sticky from not being adjusted for 17 years. If it were me I'd probably try to get some WD40 or PB blaster in that area to lubricate some and try it again. Worst case scenario is you'll have to replace your cable.
Tried to spray it down with no results,got a new cable for $19 at advance auto,looks like throttle end is made of teflon instead of plastic.Looks like its a weekend project,how bad are they to replace,what to expect?
It's pretty straightforward. There's a small bolt that retains the cable at the transmission, should be a 10mm head or close to it. There's a small metal tab that hooks through the cable, slide it out, and install the new one.
EDIT Be warned: watch for the grommet that seals the cable at its base on the transmission. Remove this grommet if it doesn't slide out with the old cable. Put a small amount of tranny fluid on it to help it slide in to place on the new cable. Do NOT put the grommet in the transmission and install the cable base through it or you risk damaging the grommet. Put it on the cable base and then install it in to the transmission. Sorry, forgot that part.
It can be annoying trying to hook the tab back in to the new one. After that, just route it the original way and hook it back up at the throttle bracket.

Expect fluid to come out when you pull the cable out of the tranny. At least it did on mine. Some told me you have to drop it a bit to get access, but it's doable with a little motivation.
Thanks for all this since this is my first camaro(former *****),do I need to take the plenum apart to access the bracket better or just personal choice?
It's been a while since I had a v6 car. Removing the upper plenum may be necessary to remove and install the cable. The guys on the V6 section would probably be able to tell you for sure.
I got the cable off to find it was unhooked in the tranny,it was too much trouble gettin the old cable to twist how I wanted it to so I ran a new cable close to the old from the topside and got it hooked.Goin to make sure by pullin it out before I bolt it back down,letting my flashlight charge so I can see.Thanks for all the info guys!!!
