I just bought a 91 camaro with a 3.1. It sat for three years before i got it. I just did a tune up on(plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel filter) i also put fresh gas in it. It fires right up but only stays running for about 30 seconds and dies, i can then immediately fire it back up and it will do the same thing. It's not throwing codes so i am lost.
First suspicion if fuel pressure problem. I'm not sure if the V6 EFI has a Shrader valve in it, but if it does, get yourself a fuel injection pressure gauge and monitor pressure at starting and through the time it dies.
Best guess is the fuel pump has been degraded by rotten gas. But, could also be a plugged fuel filter, so change that again. If that doesn't change anything, you're looking at dropping the tank and replacing the fuel pump and pick-up sock.
Thats actually what i just got done doing! The filter i took off was not plugged, and with the motor running it had a little more than 40lbs of pressure and holds steady even when it dies.
Well i had a friend of mine watch a plug while i cranked it and he said ithe spark looked weak. I replaced the control module should i go after the coil next?
well i put a new map sensor on it and it idled! but when i give it any throttle it started to sputter and almost die. i let it idle and warm up then shut it off, now it wont start again wtf? is there anything that controls the a/f ratio besides the map, coolant sensor and o2 sensor?
Just an idea to throw out there. I had a similar problem getting my iroc going after it sat for 3 years. I had the same problem. But my rubber fuel line from the pump to the sending unit in the tank had rotted away(from the bad gas). Easiest way I think I found out... was try to start it and after it dies, take the gas cap off. Mine would almost blow the cap out of my hands. LOL! But yours is idleing now so, and running rich. So I don't think that would be your problem.

Have you had any luck getting the car running? I have almost the same problem. My 91 3.1L starts up, but when you touch the gas pedle the car stalls. I got no codes, and changed the EGR valve, as well as the ECM, and I still have the same problem.
I have a 91 with a 3.1L V6. Very similar problem...the car starts but as soon as you touch the gas pedel the car stalls. I changed the EGR, fuel filter, and the ECM. Any ideas on what I should try next? The car sat for a few years before I bought it from a friend of mine. It ran good when I got it, so I changed all the filters, wires, and plugs. I also put some fresh gas it it. Then I took it to the gas station and filled it up, on the way home the problem started.
i have no idea if this would apply to you,, but i had a similar issue with my 87 iroc 5.0 tpi and i was pulling my hair out trying to fix it. it turned out to be an oil pressure switch next to the filter. it tells the fuel pump to stay running as long as there is oil pressure.. and shuts it down if it doesn't sense anything. mine was toast.. it was about $14 at o'reillys, and i haven't had a problem since.
